It is possible to iron wool, observing safety measures. A correctly carried out procedure will allow you to smooth the seams and give a neat appearance to the product.
Wool is demanding to care for. In order not to spoil it during processing, stick to our recommendations.
When can I iron?
If the item is purchased in a store, carefully examine the label. The images on it show how to care for clothes.
Understanding the meaning of abbreviations is easy:
- Strikethrough iron means that the material must not be steamed and ironed;
- if the crossed-out picture is accompanied by two vertical lines from the bottom - the clothes can not be steamed;
- an iron with one point inside says that ironing is allowed at a temperature below 100 degrees without steam through gauze;
- two-point iron - the product can be ironed and steamed, heating the device to 150 degrees using wet gauze or cloth;
- an iron without additional signs indicates that the thing can be ironed at any temperature.
To steam, pour purified water into the apparatus. This will help to avoid contamination of the soleplate and damage to the material.
How and at what temperature to iron?
If you need to iron wool clothes, and there are no labels, follow the general rules:
- be sure to use gauze;
- Do not heat the iron to more than 150 degrees;
- for work, get an ironing board, cover its surface with a dense natural fabric of light color;
- Use modern appliances equipped with a steaming system, a non-stick sole and a temperature controller.
It is recommended to iron the product if it is connected with the usual smooth surface and does not have embossed inserts.
To smooth the coat, use the following algorithm:
- Turn the clothes inside out, shake and carefully lay them on the board. Cover with wet gauze or a cotton cloth.
- Set the “Wool” mode on the iron. First let out a stream of hot air, and then iron by lightly touching the material.
- In order not to burn the fabric, act quickly and do not linger in one area for longer than 2-3 seconds.
Steam patterns, seams, cuffs, loops, holding the sole at a distance of a few centimeters from the wool. Do not stretch a thing during operation.
To prevent deformation, do not iron the coat when wet. Wait until it is completely dry.
How to steam things?
When steaming, the risk of damage to the coat is minimal. This method is suitable for knit and crochet patterns.
Sweaters, sweaters, trousers made of wool are best handled horizontally. Put the hats on a glass jar, so they retain their shape perfectly.
Processing is more convenient to do with a steam generator, but you can also use a conventional iron with a steaming system:
- To prevent the thing from stretching, spread it out, hang it on your shoulders and fix it in the right position with pins.
- Whatever wool product you steamed, be sure to cover it with gauze first.
- Pour purified water into the container, heat and steam, keeping the device at a small distance from the surface. Try to keep the gauze wet and periodically moisten it.
After steaming, wait until the things cool and dry. If you put it on earlier, it can be deformed.
Useful Tips
Ironing may not be necessary if you dry things by straightening all creases:
- To keep mohair sweaters and sweaters presentable, wrap them after washing in a thick towel, carefully unscrew and lay them out in a horizontal position for drying.
- Hang semi-dry clothes made of thin acrylic threads on the shoulders and level with your hands. To smooth the creases, boil water, pour into a bowl and hang the item over steam.
- To remove creases from an openwork sweater, use a wooden rolling pin. First, dampen two terry towels and carefully unscrew. Put one on a horizontal surface, place clothes on top and cover with a second towel. Take a rolling pin and roll it on terry material several times. The folds on the clothes should be smoothed out. The same method is suitable for things with a long pile, downy shawls.
- If you urgently need to put your hair in order, and there is no iron at hand, a regular hair dryer is suitable for drying hair. Cover the material with wet gauze, turn on the device and treat it with hot air, keeping it at a distance of 10 mm from the product.
- White wool threads are more afraid of high temperatures than others. From them they turn yellow and lose their attractive appearance, so steam and iron white clothes at minimum speed.
Wool is a whimsical material that is easily ruined by a hot iron. To avoid this, iron it in a pinch, do not exceed the permissible temperature and do not handle the wet thing, otherwise it may stretch.
