Removing old furniture from the apartment is not so difficult. All that is needed is to disassemble it, take it out to the street and load it into the car. But where to carry it is not clear. To unload old tables and sofas at a city dump, you need to pay a lot of money, in addition, the nearest landfill can be located several hundred kilometers. Throwing trash in a secluded alley is also not free, for such a violation of public order a fine is imposed. However, there are alternative options - using them will turn out not only to get rid of unnecessary things, but also to earn.
Option 1 - sell “as is”
As practice shows, even furniture in very poor condition does not have to be sent for recycling - it quickly finds new owners. The main thing is not to try to sell an extended chair at the price of a new soft corner. What you consider to be junk, other people can repair (drag with a new cloth, repaint, decorate) and use as intended.
Rare and antique items can be offered to connoisseurs of antiquity. In this case, the price tag will rise from two to three hundred “for juice and chocolate” to several tens of thousands. Naturally, the better the furniture is preserved, the more they will be offered for it.
Potential buyers are easiest to find in these ways:
- Put an announcement on the sale of old furniture on the porch door - most likely, it will appeal to someone from the neighbors, and this will solve the problem.
- To advertise in a local newspaper - despite the fact that the Internet is penetrating deeper and deeper into our lives, the older generation still prefers to learn about everything from the print press.
- Place an ad on boards like Avito or Yula. It is advisable to supplement it with photographs so that people see the real state of furniture and do not waste either their or your time in vain.
- Tell everyone you know - verbally and through social networks - that you plan to sell old furniture items. Even if they don’t need anything, they may be familiar with people who all their life have dreamed of making a decoupage of just such a table or setting up a sideboard in the country that you dream of getting rid of.
Option 2 - return for processing
It doesn't matter what material the furniture is made of - there is always a place where you can turn it in. True, it is unlikely that it will be possible to attach everything at the same time - and cabinets, and tables, and chairs. Before you take things to the recycling center, you should disassemble them (in the literal sense of the word - into small parts) and sort them.
- The metal parts - hinges, hinges, springs, etc. - must be folded separately. If possible, it should also be divided by type of metal - ordinary steel (ferrous metal), copper, aluminum, stainless steel.
- Everything that is made of wood (armrests of sofas, doors, bottoms and walls of cabinets, table covers) must also be disposed of separately. Since after processing briquettes and pellets for heating will be made from them, the fabric upholstery and foam will have to be removed.
- Plastic furniture will receive a second life in the form of construction bags, garbage bags and sewer pipes. For its use as a recyclable material, the absence of extraneous impurities is also important.
- In some cities, they also accept rags - such reception points can be offered upholstery fabric, but as a rule, there are not so many of them left, so taking them somewhere is unprofitable. It is much easier to take waste to a regular tank - this is not prohibited by law.
Do you have to bring furniture to the processing point yourself?
If there are really a lot of recyclables, the receivers will take it out for free. Otherwise, you will have to arrange the delivery of metal, boards and plastic by your own transport, which significantly reduces income.
If you managed to sell furniture, who should arrange delivery to the buyer?
In the case of a sale, the removal of furniture is paid by the buyer. And the former owner only recounts the money and sighs in relief.
If you don’t set a goal to make money and will be happy to just get rid of old furniture, you can offer it to foundations that help the poor and those who have suffered from natural disasters - in a crisis situation, what seems to you trash will serve these people good service. Another option is to talk to workers from a construction site nearby. Most likely, in their cabin there is not enough table or chairs, a sofa.
