The dishwasher can work without failures from 8 to 10 years. But there are breakdowns, among which - the lack of heating water. This is due to a heater malfunction. The PMM device is simple, so you can do the replacement of the heater in the dishwasher yourself. How to check and replace an item, consider below.
Causes of malfunction of the heating element
Most often, the heater in the Bosch, Ariston, Electrolux, Candy dishwashers breaks down due to overheating - it burns out. Manufacturers and specialists recommend installing flow filters, voltage stabilizers on the dishwasher: they are necessary for long-term and safe operation.
Hard water in the pipes promotes scale formation. Heavy limescale deposits on the interior of the PMM, including the heater. To avoid this, filters are used and special salt is added.
Uneven mains voltage requires the installation of a stabilizer. This device will protect the electronic part of the equipment from burnout.
If the heater is out of order, it can not be repaired, only replaced.
How to verify a breakdown
Modern models "Bosch", "Electrolux", "Indesit", "Ariston", "Siemens" are equipped with a diagnostic system. As soon as the electronic board notices a malfunction in the PMM, it immediately displays an error code on the display. But if the error does not appear on the screen, first check the temperature sensor:
- disconnect the bottom (for the built-in model) or the back panel (for the freestanding PMM);
- above the heating block is a temperature sensor (round element);
- inspect the part for burns or damage;
- ring the electronic part (contacts) of the sensor with a multimeter.
When draining the water, touch the drain pipe with your hand. If it is warm, then the water heats up.
If everything is in order, you will have to further disassemble the dishwasher and diagnose the heater. Where is the heating element located? Most often it is located on the side of the circulation pump.
Types of heating elements
Depending on the brand and model of the dishwasher - Siemens, Indesit, Hotpoint Ariston - the heater can be:
- Flowing. Water passes through the heating pipe, instantly reaching the optimum temperature.
- Tubular. Inside it is a spiral that heats the water.
Important! When choosing a new dishwasher part, pay attention to the ENR number, which consists of letters and numbers. So you can buy a heater for your PMM model.
How to replace the heater
Prepare accessories for replacement. You may need a new heating unit, as well as a temperature sensor in the event of a malfunction. Of the tools you will need:
- slotted and Phillips screwdrivers;
- pliers;
- awl;
- multimeter tester.
Before buying new items, make sure that the old heater is malfunctioning. On machines "Bosch", "Electrolux", "Indesit" TEN is not subject to separate replacement, it is necessary to remove the entire block.
How to understand that you have a non-separable block? Look at the mounts. If there are screws or latches around the perimeter, then you can try to disassemble and remove the heater separately.
If the dishwasher has already served 8-10 years, it is easier to think about buying new equipment. After all, the heating unit costs from 3,000 to 10,000 rubles.
Proceed to dismantle and replace the part. Work sequence:
- Disconnect the machine from the communications, unplug the plug.
- Open the tank door, remove all baskets and trays.
- Pulling up, remove the lower beam.
- Unscrew the drain filter. Behind it may be a metal mesh, remove it.
- There may be water in the landing container. Remove it with a sponge.
- Remove five bolts securing the circulation pump.
- Place an old blanket or towel overturn the machine on the back or upside down.
- Remove the decorative bottom panel.
- Disconnect the bottom - it is mounted on screws or latches. Some models come without a cover. A float sensor can be attached to the bottom, if Aquastop is provided. Then disconnect its wire and unscrew the screw of fastening.
- A drain pump is connected to the side of the heater. Grab it with your hand and twist it counterclockwise.
- Disconnect the wiring and remove the pump.
- Disconnect the rubber clamp that holds the heater.
- Disconnect hoses, wires and fittings.
- Remove the defective heater.
Diagnosis of the heater is carried out with a multimeter. Attach the probes to the contacts and measure the resistance.
Do not use a defective wire for alteration or insulation. If the wiring is broken, it is better to immediately replace it with a new element.
After installing new parts, run a test run of the machine.
As you can see, you can do the replacement yourself. Take care of the dishwasher, then breakdowns will bypass the dishwasher. Watch the video on the topic:
