In the bath, mold appears due to poor ventilation, high humidity. The fungus can cause allergies, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, eye, lung diseases, and oncology. Therefore, it is necessary to destroy the fungus.
Prevention work at the stage of laying and building a bath
The most effective protection against fungus is carried out at the design stage, construction. Recommendations for preventing mold:
- It is important to use wood felled in winter. It is recommended to lay the foundation in frost, and to erect walls and a roof in spring.
- Before starting work, it is necessary to study the wood. If there are traces of fungus on at least one of the logs, it is better to postpone the entire batch, replace it with a new one. There is a special device that allows you to measure the level of humidity. It helps to select dry wood for construction.
- When designing, drawing up a drawing, it is important to think over, note the location of the holes for natural ventilation. They should be underground under the floors, in the attic, in the edges of the frame.
- Before erecting walls, it is necessary to consider the waterproofing of the foundation. All load-bearing structures are recommended to be protected by vapor barrier.
- Do not save on the purchase of a powerful extract, antiseptics.
- Freezing walls, slopes, the ceiling must be insulated, ventilation valves should be installed in the plastic windows.
What can be done if the fungus appears in the bath at the stage of its operation
Recommendations for preventing the appearance of new lesions:
- It is necessary to eliminate plumbing leaks, pipes.
- It is required to check the sources of forced and natural ventilation.
- If the bath is constantly heated, you must always maintain a high temperature inside.
- After turning off the heating, it is necessary to remove wet rags on the street: towels, rugs that lie on the floor, benches. Screens, textiles need to be carefully spread so that they dry out.
- The fungus actively multiplies on dirty surfaces, therefore, after each visit, it is necessary to wash the interior with water using means intended for hygiene of baths, saunas.
How to deal with a fungal colony
Mold most often appears in wooden baths, which are not heated constantly, but from time to time. Fungal colonies have no particular preferences. They settle on the walls, floor, ceiling, where the most damp. If the room is not sufficiently insulated, a porcini mushroom appears on the tree (see photo).
You can fight a fungal colony:
- mechanically
- chemicals
- folk remedies.
Mechanical way to fight
The method involves manual grouting of the affected area with a spatula, iron brush, sandpaper. You can use a grinder, a drill equipped with a brush nozzle.
When performing mechanical stripping, it is necessary to watch how deep the fungus got into the soft texture. You can make a replacement. To do this, it is necessary to cut the affected area in a bar, insert a new fragment in its place.
Before starting to clean the boards, the base must be well shed with water. Humidity will prevent the spread of pests.
Chemicals
Chemical compositions should be used carefully. Some of them are absorbed into the wood. When heating walls, ceilings, floors, dangerous toxins are released into the air. It is necessary to choose antiseptics of deep penetration, intended for the treatment of walls, ceilings, floors of saunas, baths.
Means are divided into three groups: organic based on oils, combined, water-based antiseptics. The first two are highly toxic. Water-based septic tanks are designed for the treatment of internal surfaces of rooms, including baths. You need to do the processing using protective equipment.
When choosing the composition, it is necessary to give preference to proven brands - Scandinavian, German brands.
Folk remedies
The simplest and most effective folk remedy is a mixture of bleach and formalin. The ingredients are soluble in water. The composition is applied to a dry surface. You need to be careful, the decorative layer of the walls may deteriorate.
Another composition is prepared from copper sulfate (vitriol) and alum-potassium alum, which are sold in pharmacies.
50 g of vitriol, 100 g of alum are taken per liter. You can add 30 g of ordinary table salt. The solution is thoroughly mixed, applied with a roller or a wide brush to the affected area.
It is possible to fight with a fungus in a bath hydrogen peroxide. A 25% solution is taken, rubbed into a wooden surface. After drying, the treated surface is wiped with a damp cloth.
Sulfur will help remove the fungus. The way to fight is simple. All vents are tightly closed. Sulfur is placed in a metal vessel (its amount is calculated by the formula - 20 g per 1 m3), then it is set on fire. Sulfur gas is distributed throughout the room. It has a detrimental effect on fungal colonies. Lime should burn for about nine hours. Then a box of quicklime is brought into the bathhouse. She picks up poisonous fumes.
At the time of installation of the box you need to be careful to protect the respiratory system. Sulfur fumes are unhealthy. In high concentrations, they can be fatal.
The best way to combat mold is to prevent its occurrence.
