Immediately make a reservation, the experience is not mine, but, I think, the answer to the question of when to plant cucumbers a second time in the summer will be of interest to many. A clipping from an old newspaper caught my eye literally today. Very interested, so I bring it in full, keeping the name of the author. Unfortunately, I can’t bring a source, I don’t know from which newspaper I cut out this article.
Last year, somehow early, we were left without our fresh cucumbers. The hot and dry second half of the summer did its job. Yes, and we are good, did not follow and did not take measures in time, did not provide proper care for them. Construction takes all the free time from work. Already in August, the family experienced an acute shortage of its “natural product”. Both husband and children turned up their nose from store cucumbers, and when the youngest son said that he was not a rabbit in order to eat this “grass” from the supermarket, I realized that we should try to grow our cucumbers.
I had no such experience, and it was somehow unusual, the garden season is over, almost the entire crop has been harvested, the neighbors have already transported humus to the site, they are preparing the land for spring, and then planting cucumbers. There were doubts, but I thought, what am I losing? Well, it will not work, I will know for the future, we are getting rich with new experience. Eyes are afraid, but hands are doing. Under the garden, I took the place where I picked garlic a week ago. They say this culture is a good predecessor. August 5 began to land.
Made holes 15 cm deep and 30 cm in diameter. Between the centers of the holes it turned out 60 cm. Aisles - half a meter. I filled the holes with humus with a small slide, spilled them well with water. In each hole I put seeds, 3 pcs. I sprinkled them a little with a mixture of humus and sand in a ratio of 1: 1 and once again poured on top.
She didn’t soak the seeds, she didn’t sparge, she didn’t do anything with them, right from the pack to the ground. Daily watering with warm, settled water gave a result. Literally on the fifth day, the first seedlings appeared, on the seventh - two real leaves. A week later, she began to form a bush.
When feeding the plant, I decided to use, however, with minor changes, the advice of a neighbor. For foliar (leaves) top dressing - 1 tbsp. Spread over 10 l of water. urea, 1 ml Epina. But instead of the potassium sulfate recommended by Nina Viktorovna, she added a few drops of a strong solution of manganese, since she subtracted that potassium sulfate with urea was not used. I sprayed such a landing solution 2 times with an interval of 2 weeks. I did root feeding 3 times. For the first time, a one and a half week infusion of nettle and burdock in a liter jar on a bucket of water during emergence. The second time, during flowering, with the same solution, but with the addition of a glass of ash. The third time - during fruiting, divorced in a bucket of water infusion of bird droppings (0.5 liters) and 1 tsp. potassium sulfate.
September 26, we harvested the first crop of cucumbers, I was pleased. The fruits turned out to be very tasty, crunchy, they went with a bang for a meal in the family. Given that the summer heat has already passed, there were no bitter fruits. We collected cucumbers for about a month, however, in October, the yield began to decline. During this period, the fruits for some reason began to acquire a yellow tint, but this did not affect the taste. On the contrary, the realization that it was grown by hand, and tomorrow, perhaps, this echo of the summer will not be there, makes such cucumbers special.
Grow and eat for health!
Irina Vesnina, amateur vegetable grower, Kursk:
The author of the article does not say what kind of cucumbers were planted. But it seems to me that the best way to get a second crop of cucumbers is not to take varietal, but seeds of self-pollinated hybrids. Usually they are more resistant to temperature fluctuations, tolerate a lack of sunshine. In short, they are resistant to adverse conditions, and their productivity is higher.
And one more addition. I would still plant hatching seeds - they sprout faster, and there will be no empty holes after planting.
Of course, in each region there will be a date when in the summer to plant cucumbers a second time. Therefore, I have a request for experienced gardeners. Share knowledge in the comments on when exactly you planted cucumbers a second time. This is necessary for beginners to orient themselves when in what area it is worth doing.
